Yauri is a classically trained anthropologist and archivist for the legendary Katherine Dunham. Her academic foundation spans International Studies, African American and Ethnic Studies, Women Studies, and technology. As a storyteller, Yauri employs dance, visual art, installation, and new media to craft multi-sensory performance works, inviting audiences into a realm where art, culture, education, and technology intersect.

Yauri Dalencour Dance is not just a company; it’s a hub of innovation. Yauri coined the term “ethnodanceology,” a concept that permeates her community-based education outreach initiative, EthnodanceologyCreative. Beyond the stage, she wears multiple hats — and brings this back into the choreography and company work.

Diverse Narratives, Empowering Art: Diving into visual culture and representations of the Black experience, particularly family and Black motherhood, Yauri’s work serves as a powerful commentary on societal structures and cultural narratives
