A Black Woman’s Birth Movement

A ½ day creative workshop series exploring, celebrating and defining Black motherhood through personal authorship, design, dance, art and visual culture.

This invigorating experience for moms of African descent, pregnant or are planning to become pregnant takes women on a powerful and creative journey in Motherhood. Bring your dreams, stories, ideas and inhibition to Omumu, a space focusing on the Black Woman, pregnancy, birth experience(s), parenting, femininity and love where you’ll find tools, creativity, networking, self care, dialogue and laughter.

Astonishing recent reports that Black Women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die in childbirth than White women sound terrifying. Many are asking, “is this even real?” others are asking, “how can I save myself?”. Join us in engaging this narrative and discover ways to protect yourself and other Black women you know and love. Distinguished artist, scholar and mom of 5 along with a special guest empower you to gain an edge on your motherhood experiences from pregnancy and birth and beyond, facilitating you in defining your own narrative, a collective narrative and helping you reach your fullest potential as a mother and mothering through artistry, knowledge and ingenuity.

ATTIRE: As there will be movement in this engagement, participates are encouraged to wear yoga attire. Women are also invited to bring photocopies of sonograms and baby or mom heartbeat print outs (ECGs) taken during pregnancy.
